Mickelson continues solid seasons at The PLAYERS

Phil Mickelson continued his strong 2012 campaign at THE PLAYERS Championship this week—all caps, people, all caps; that means it’s important.

Phil into The Hall

Mickelson was honored as a new member of the World Golf Hall of Fame at last Monday’s induction ceremony, where he gave a classy speech, including a heartfelt thanks to my muse, Jim “Bones” Mackay. “And if you haven’t seen Bones in the new Callaway YouTube videos,” Mickelson surprisingly told the crowd, “you’re missing out. Whoever wrote those is very funny. That guy must have many leather-bound books.” (He didn’t say that at all, but Bones did tell me Phil loves the videos. So there.) And, by the way, the final Bones video hits YouTube today. Go check it out. Later on, I mean. When it’s up.

Alvaro Quiros

New Odyssey Putter for Quiros

Little known fact: Spaniards love wristbands—a love affair dates back to the days of their Armada…I believe. Could be wrong on that one.

Alvaro Quiros worked with Odyssey Tour Rep Johnny “Hollywood” Thompson this week to make some big changes to his putter, starting with length. JT$ cut down the putter length from 36” to 35”, as Alvaro went with an Odyssey White Ice #7 putter Heavy to get more consistency on his speed and line.

Metal X Putters

Metal-X going all Patrick Swayze-in-Roadhouse; and taking names, too

Odyssey’s new Metal-X line is the fastest growing putter on the world’s major tours. Since Jan 1, 2012, Metal-X has accumulated 252 usages across all six major professional golf tours. Metal-X is the fastest growing putter on the PGA Tour, too, with more than 50 uses since Jan 1, 2012. The next closest model has 35. With 103 uses on the Japan Golf Tour since Jan 1, Metal-X is dominating there as well.
