Odyssey putter wins on PGA Tour
NEWS
The winner of this week’s McGladrey Classic on the PGA Tour used an Odyssey White Hot XG #5 putter to emerge victorious in a playoff. “I was riding a hot putter,” he said. And he was right. He made eight birdies in the final round to shoot 63. Using his Odyssey flat stick, the winner was second in the field in putts per round for the week, averaging 28.5. He was also second in putts per GIR at 1.673.
By the way, how can the McGladrey Classic be a “classic” in just its 2nd year? Nothing gains “classic” status in year two. I say you need a decade to become a “classic” anything. We should vote on this. Although, rumor has it the place (Sea Island) is pretty sweet.
Sang Moon Bae wins Japan Open Championship
Using a full bag of Callaway clubs and an Odyssey putter, staff pro Sang Moon Bae continues to dominate in Japan. This week, Sang Moon won the Japan Open Championship, his third victory of the season and the 14th of the year for Odyssey on that tour. Sang Moon uses an Odyssey Tour Milled 1 putter. With the win, he stretched his lead on the Tour’s money list.
NOTES
Newsflash: Odyssey covers leaderboard on PGA Tour
In addition to the winner, Odyssey was also in the hands of these players at the McGladrey “Classic”.
Listed alphabetically by order of finish (amazing how that worked out), they are:
- 5th – Trevor Immelman – White Hot 2-Ball Mid
- T6th – Player X – White Hot XG 2 Ball Blade
- T6th – Player Y – White Hot 2-Ball Center Shafted
- T11th – Player Z – White Hot XG #7 Mid
*Players X, Y and Z all play Odyssey because they want to, not because they are paid to. Kind of generic names, though. Shame on their parents.
Immelman leads field in putting with new (old) Odyssey belly putter
Odyssey staff pro Trevor Immelman, who finished fifth on Sunday, led the field in both putts per round (with a 27.5 average for the tournament) and putts per GIR (1.667 average) at the McGladrey “Classic”. It was his first week this season using the belly version of the White Hot 2-Ball. It was the third different Odyssey belly putter that Trevor has tried in three weeks, and this one apparently did the trick. He won using the same putter at the Deutsche Bank-SAP Open TPC of Europe in Germany in 2004.
You can buy the Odyssey 2-Ball in a belly version at your local retailer. Did you know that? You do now. Drink in that knowledge. Enjoy it. Make more putts. That whole thing. Yeah!
34 Odyssey putters in play at the McGladrey Classic
According to Odyssey tour rep Johnny Thompson, there were 34 Odyssey putters in play this week on the PGA Tour. Of those, 11 were nontraditional in length—nine were Mid (belly) putters and two were Long. Every Odyssey putter in play had an insert. Insert one into your hands and you could be on Tour soon, too. (Probably not, actually, but how about that pun right there!?)
Hadwin adjusts putter for Bermuda greens
Adam Hadwin made a loft adjustment to his Odyssey White Ice #5 putter this week. He went from 2.75 degrees of loft to 4 degrees because of the slower, grainier Bermuda greens. According to Odyssey rep Johnny Thompson, Adam immediately saw a consistent roll out and the ball was getting on top much quicker.
